So last month my dear grandmother passed away. (God rest her soul. Granny, I’ll never forget the innumerable ways that you made me a better person.)

When she had been brought home from the hospital and was on hospice care, she was unable to eat and drink normal food/water, so about all that we could do for her was to offer her a bit of water via a crushed up ice cube from time to time. She found it to be very comforting to just have the touch of moisture in her mouth, and it was certainly the least we could do.

Do you ever get up in the middle of the night? Depending on how late dinner was the night before, and how much soda I consumed at said dinner… sometimes I find myself getting up in the middle of the night. Let’s just say that my body isn’t lacking for liquid and leave it at that. Anyhoo…. One of the very enjoyable things that I’ve found to do when I get up in the middle of the night and am running the water at the sink, is to cup a bit of water in my hand and drink the tiniest amount. Not even enough to swallow. Just merely enough to wet my mouth. It is absolutely awesome! If you haven’t tried this, don’t walk, run, to the nearest bed and go to sleep. When you wake up in the middle of the night, try it! Remember.. Just a tiny bit of water. Not even enough to need to swallow. You’ll like it. That’s my tip for the day, and it is well worth the price paid. That little bit of moisture really, really hits the spot.

So…. All of this has recently had me thinking about Hell.

In the Bible, the book of St Luke, chapter 16, Jesus is telling about a “rich man” that finds himself in Hell, and in verse 24 the rich man cries out and says, “Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.”

Wow! All he wants is for someone to dip the tip of their finger in water and run it across his tongue. Next time you get up in the middle of the night and have the experience described a couple of paragraphs back, think about how uncomfortable this guy must have been, and multiple that by a billion.

(Oh, the rest of the story? Well, Abraham responds and basically says: When you were alive, you had everything, and Lazarus had nothing. You’re out of luck!” It’s a pretty good read. Go to an Online Bible and read all about it)

So last month my dear grandmother passed away. (God rest her soul.
