I’ve been watching for a truck camper for my Toyota for almost a year now, and there just aren’t very many that show up. Ebay has one right now that would be really nice, but it isn’t going to be in my price range, I’m sure.

It’s a 2001 Phoenix Coyote (C6M model) pop up camper

The description is as follows:

Phoenix makes one of the nicest lite weight campers on the market today. Made in Colorado and weighing only 898 lbs dry, these campers are designed to be taken off road with 4wd pickups and are very stable on the highway with 2wd pickups. This camper is currently being used with a 2wd Ford Ranger (not included in this auction). It fit's similar pickups such as the S-10, Frontier and most of the Tacoma's (May not fit some years because of cab height). Jacks can be modified for use with the Dakota, Tundra and some full size pickups with the 6' bed. Complete specifications can be found at www.phoenixcampers.com/coyote.html Please check this website and make sure it will fit your vehicle before bidding. The current price of a new Coyote is also listed on this website starting at $11,295. I purchased this camper from a Colorado dealer approximately 3 years ago with the intent to travel the west coast. As often happens...my plans have changed and I've been able to use the camper only 5-6 times. The condition is "Very Nice" with everything in good working order. Non-smoking, no leaks and very clean. Queen size bed (67x80) sleeps 2 adults and small child & table makes into a second bed (28x73) for a smaller person. 3-way frig runs on 12V/110/propane. Includes 3 burner stove, furnace, sink, elect water pump & plenty of storage. Aftermarket A/C has been added and works very well. I encourage you to ask questions and to make arrangements to come by and inspect the camper for yourself. This will make someone a very nice camper for many years. I've set a low reserve price and will sell to the highest bidder. Winning bidder must pay a $500.00 deposit with paypal at the close of auction and balance to be paid in cash within 7 day's. You'll need to pickup in Overland park, Kansas unless other arrangements are made. I may be able to deliver in the K.C. metro area or a little further??? Please talk to me about this before you bid. Otherwise your expected to pickup.

So, it’s in Kansas City, which isn’t terribly inconvenient. It looks nice. It’s pretty new..

I asked the seller a question about the air conditioner. The response was quick. Basically, the AC is a regular window unit that was installed in the wall on the back of the camper. Probably not the most efficient of models, but that’s generally not an issue when camping.

At any rate, the bidding has 2.25 days left. The starting bid was $1,000, and it is currently at $2,550. The reserve hasn’t yet been met. The seller has a buy it now price of $5,500, so who’s to say what the reserve actually is. Probably $5,000 or something. He says it is a low reserve, but low is relative.

If, by some strange stroke of magic everyone else lost internet access between now and Sunday night, I’d probably be willing to go up to $3,000 on the thing. I could somehow handle that. But, I see it going for closer to $6,000. Stay tuned.

Update: The camper stayed at $2,550 for quite some time. In the last day it jumped to $2,850, and then $3,050, and the reserve price hadn’t yet been met. It had crossed my $3,000 line, so I wasn’t planning to bid on it. When I made it back to the computer, the camper had met the reserve and sold for $3,6xx. So, it actually didn’t go that much above $3,000. I would guess that whoever bought it got themselves a good deal. But, that’s a bit more than I want to pay.
